Synopsis

In the 16th century ‘Age of Civil War’, one man works with flowers to bring peace to the land. His name is Senko Ikenobo. One of the ‘flower monks’ of Rokkakudo Temple, he is invited to arrange flowers for the rising warlord Nobunaga Oda, on which occasion he meets the legendary tea master Rikyu. When structural failure strikes his arrangement as it is unveiled, he is saved from Oda’s anger, and his own possible execution, by the intervention of one of Oda’s retainers, Hideyoshi Toyotomi.
Years later, Hideyoshi has united all of Japan under his rule. Senko has become close friends with Rikyu, now Hideyoshi’s tea master, and the two go from success to success. The popularity of Rikyu, however, offends Hideyoshi, who orders him to commit ritual suicide. Hideyoshi’s paranoia also spreads to Senko, and many of the people around him are executed.
Senko decides to give battle, not with a sword, but with flowers. He arranges a meeting with Hideyoshi, and the two face each other in a final showdown.
