The film takes place in the transition from Colonial Brazil to the Empire. The story begins in 1821 with the birth of Anita Garibaldi, and continues until the year 1835. Among the battles for independence in southern Brazil, led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, the narrative also turns to the first steps of colonization of the region, in a period marked by the slavery system and by conflicts with the native indigenous population.
