Synopsis
Darren is a talented electronic pop musician, but has no time or money to work on her music. Juggling three part-time jobs and recently fired by her music manager, Darren discovers SugarDaddy.com, the dating website where rich older men pay to go on dates with younger women. She signs up on a whim.
Darren goes on dates with three Sugar Daddies: Edward, the viciously detached businessman, Jim, the newly- widowed, odd-ball opera buff, and Gordon, the charming seventy-five year old lawyer with whom she forms an unlikely connection. With more financial freedom, Darren upgrades her equipment, plays more gigs, and can finally focus on writing new music...
But her money making scheme blows up in her face as it polarizes her friends, her family, and especially her roommate Peter, who is secretly in love with her and jealous of the time she gives to the Sugar Daddies. But with this judgement, the tone of Darren's writing takes a more mature and compelling turn, revealing her inner conflict. On the heels of a potentially career making gig and alienated by her friends and fellow artists, Darren seeks solace with the only person she can turn to, her Sugar Daddy Gordon. They get drunk, share a moment of real intimacy, and have sex - effectively ruining their friendship.
On the morning of her gig, Darren receives a hundred-thousand dollar cheque from Gordon. Unsettled, Darren struggles with whether or not she's received a parting gift from a friend or if she's simply been paid for sex. On the night of the biggest gig of her life, Darren steps onstage in front of a crowd of thousands, and finally gives up caring what people think of her. She debuts her new music with wild abandon and blows everyone away. A star is born, but at what cost...
