GLEN HOLLOMAN (30s) is a credit collector who is clearly depressed and alone. On his way to shoot himself one day, he runs into the ebullient and ever-optimistic suit salesman LAWRENCE ANDREWS (30s). Holloman is both fascinated and jealous of a man so committed to seeing the brighter side of life, so instead of committing suicide, he follows Lawrence and begins a budding friendship. Lawrence insinuates himself as Holloman’s mentor, lecturing him about how to take the positive path. But when Lawrence suffers a series of strange setbacks in his life – his dog goes missing, his car is crushed, he loses his job, and his fiancé dumps him -- it becomes clear that Holloman is in fact out to destroy Lawrence and his positive attitude. And yet … Lawrence is so oblivious and committed to seeing the bright side of life that he refuses to admit anyone may be out to get him. Even when Holloman burns Lawrence’s apartment to the ground, hits him with a car, blinds him, and gets him committed to a mental institution – not only does Lawrence survive, but so does his optimism. So Holloman finally and happily realizes: life is an absurd joke, so why not just ... live! Unfortunately though, life has other plans.
