Synopsis
The soldier, ALI, stands bare-chested in a public toilet in Copenhagen airport taping photographs to his back. He is in a hurry; a military officer knocks insistently on the door. Ali exits wearing his coat and is led to an interrogation room where he is to sign a confidentiality agreement concerning his tour of duty at a Danish army base. The officers go through Ali’s bag and carry out a body search, but find nothing. On his way home from the airport, Ali is tailed by an agent. Ali discovers he is being followed, but loses the agent, seeking refuge in a summer cottage.
The neighbouring cottage belongs to film director FALK who is in the process of finishing the screenplay for his next film. Falk is agitated. Exhausted. Burned-out. The deadline is only a few days away and he just can’t seem to find the right story. Falk notices Ali pass by his window and enter the neighbouring property.
Falk shares the cottage with his wife HELENA. They have just received a picture of the son they are about to adopt. Their dream has suddenly become very real and they are excited about the prospect of becoming parents.
Falk meets with his producer HÅKON. Håkon is worried that Falk will not have finished the screenplay in time but Falk assures him that everything will be fine. He will have the screenplay on Friday. On his way back to the cottage, Falk drives through a dark forest. Suddenly, he hears a loud thud. Falk jumps out of the car only to find that he his victim is Ali, who barely manages to utter the words: “Take the bag”.
Falk takes the bag and promises to get help. Calling from a nearby petrol station, he anonymously reports the accident. A surveillance camera pans towards Falk, who quickly hangs up. Gripped by panic, Falk races home to Helena, persuading her to stay the night at a hotel in the city but fails to mention the car accident.
At the hotel, Falk opens the bag and finds photographs of prisoners being tortured by Danish soldiers. Needless to say, he is shaken to the core. Falk pays a visit to his sister, SIRI, who works for a Danish broadcaster. Siri knows MICHAEL, a reliable journalist who is willing to help Falk publish the photographs but Michael wants proof that the pictures are genuine and wants to meet Falk’s source. In an effort to find out more about Ali, Falk decides to turn himself over to the police. The police informs him that according to the police report it was a false alarm. There was no body in the forrest! Falk is confused. Are the police deliberately trying to cover things up?
This marks the start of a true mystery. The photographs are stolen, Falk discovers that Michael has been leading him on a wild goose chase. Even Falk’s sister Siri seems to be determined to stop him when suddenly the adoption is in danger when The State Department gives him some erroneously documents. And then Helena disappears! The conspiracy closes in on Falk, who refuses to give up. Ali’s story MUST be published – not matter the cost. But in the end the truth maybe very different that what Falk imagined or hoped for.
