On October 10, 1911, the Wuchang Uprising opened a new leaf on the history of China. Shortly afterwards, Sun Yat-sen returned from abroad to become the Provisional President of the Republic of China and founded the Provisional Government of the Republic of China in the second after, which marked the downfall of China’s feudal dynasty. Under the surfaces of the new Republic, the tribulations of the Chinese nation still persisted. Then, Yuan Shikai usurped the presidency and secretly signed a treaty of Twenty-one Demands with Japan in an attempt to restore the Monarch. In the waves of criticism and denunciation from around the country, the Restoration attempt failed. But confused civil wars among the warlords plunged the country into new disasters. It was in the wake of such national calamity that various patriots, especially the ardent youths, started to explore ways to save the nation. Among them were Mao Zedong, Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu, Cai Hesen, Zhang Guotao and Zhou Enlai, who embarked on a sacred mission in the turbulent times from 1911 to 1921, the year when they founded the Chinese Communist Party.
