Women Directors investigates Italian Cinema through the eyes of female directors. This documentary studies the evolution of women filmakers, from the early beginnings to the present and highlighting the recent public recognition of women directors at major festivals and award ceremonies. An extraordinary figure, from out of time, will lead this trip: the pioneer of the Silent Cinema Elvira Notari (1875-1946) played by the extraordinary Maria de Medeiros. Through the representations of Elvira Notari's real anecdotes and the voices of the characters who lived beside her, this documentray will dig deeper into the figure of this extraordinary woman and director. With sensitivity and intimacy Women Directors gathers confidentialities and engaging anecdotes from female directors of today, revealing their innermost motivation that lead them to undertake such a job. The main purpose is to elevate the director’s profession through an upward unification using positive examples and sending a message of hope to the young generation and for all minorities.
