t is 1937 and Spain is in the grips of Civil War. Pablo Picasso, who at the time is Honorary Director of the Prado Museum of Madrid, receives a commission from the Spanish Republican Government to create a mural for the Spanish Pavilion at the World Fair being held in Paris. Nevertheless, on April 26th, 1937, the Nazi Luftwaffe bombs and destroys Guernica, a town that is historically considered to be the very heart of the Basque Country. As news of the brutal attack spreads throughout the world, Picasso is stunned and horrified. So, on May 1st, after renting the studio on rue Grands-Augustins in Paris, he begins painting what he perceives and feels is a horror no longer approaching but already upon the world. Picasso makes headway on the canvas but he is also living a complicated love story with the French photographer Dora Maar, who in turn photographs the making of the painting. 'Guernica. 33 Days' will bring to life the story of the painting and will recreate Picasso's personal world around the 'Guernica'.
