On a cold November day the world’s most successful and richest beer brewer, Alfred Heineken, is kidnapped along with his driver in front of his office building. For twenty-one gruelling and nerve-racking days the industrialist is kept in a cold and cramped cell, chained to the wall and, for the first time in his life, completely powerless. Meanwhile Rem, the gang’s junior member, takes charge of guarding the two kidnapped men, humiliating and frightening Heineken with sadistic pleasure. When the ransom has finally been paid, Heineken and his driver are freed. Then the hunt for the kidnappers begins, in which Heineken is much more than just a passive observer. To the very highest level this dominant character exerts his influence to make sure the men are captured. The kidnappers’ prey has turned into their hunter. He is particularly obsessed about Rem’s arrest. Why did this kid treat him so badly? What is it that fuels his personal hate? As a general at the frontline Heineken develops a strategy to get the gang, Rem especially, behind bars. Heineken’s long and dogged war has its grand finale in the Caribbean, where he manages to corner his kidnappers. Following the arrest Heineken is confronted with the man he has hunted down for so long. A moment of huge satisfaction and relief. But there are other strong feelings too in his mind. The kidnapping has had an enormous impact on his life and has changed him fundamentally: his carefree existence is over. In Rem’s words: ”You will be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life.”
