Although fictional characters are interlaced this story is based on the true life events of Germany's war 1 and 2 hero Father Rupert Mayer. Father Rupert Mayer (Oliver Gruber) served in both wars and was awarded the iron cross medal. During his time on the eastern front he lost his leg in the war. Father Mayer spent many years during the second war preaching sermons against the powers to be (Nazi rule). Father Mayer is warned to stop preaching his anti Nazi sermons and lands in prison not once but twice where he suffered under the Nazi regime. A Bavarian lawyer Donna Von Bayern (Nicola Mayerl) risks her life to save Father Mayer from death in the prison. Finally Donna is motivated by an American ex-patriot Mrs. Johanson (Daryl Hannah) to plead with Donna's dad Colonial Von Bayern (Stacy Keach) to get Father Mayer released from prison. Mayer is warned by head SS (Torsten Münchow) to stop preaching or else. Father Mayer gets released by the spiritual and mental help of a fellow Jewish prisoner (Michael Mendl) and Father Mayer vows to never stop preaching sermons against the Nazis and ends up in Sachsenhausen concentration camp as a result of his relentless courageous exertion forhuman rights. Father Mayer near his death is finally rescued weighing only 100 pounds by the Americans being taken back to his home townMunich in ruins by an army officer (Damian Chapa). The film was shot at original locations in and around Munich.
