In 17th Century Amsterdam, a period of “Tulip Mania” has gripped the land. With a single tulip bulb selling for more than 10 times the average person’s wages, the exotic flower could make - and break - fortunes. Yet for wealthy merchant Cornelis Sandvoort, true happiness lay in creating some semblance of immortality through a family with his much-younger bride, Sophia.
