This is the strange but funny tale of a man who kept needling France in her side. A story of a young jewish boy causing mischief in a Paris occupied by the Germans, of a timid painter who leaves his canvases and a room under the rooftops to earn a name in drag cabarets. It's a "hero's life" with a swinging sixties backdrop, in which the shadows of the hero's mind become creatures on the screen ans his wild wordplay is married with scandalous love affairs. From that union is born a subversive work starring a rebelliously faithful Frenchman whose songs and acts became (in)famous across the world. It's the story of Serge Gainsbourg.
