Synopsis
JOHNNY, and his team execute a robbery at a jewelry store that goes horribly wrong, culminating in a massive shootout with the police. Johnny gets away and heads to a rendezvous spot to meet his girlfriend, SHAUNA, who leads the cops on a breathless chase through the streets. They evade the police, only to realize that the diamonds they stole – are fakes. Worse, the bag of worthless fake diamonds contains a GPS tracker.
So they hit the road, narrowly avoiding capture. Johnny calls an old friend, MAX, in hopes that he can set up a quick score for some money to get away safely. Max introduces them to MILES, a ruthless criminal with designs on a big, easy score. Miles gives Johnny the lowdown and shows him their target: a married couple in the suburbs named PETE and HOLLY WILSON. Miles has been watching them for weeks, studying their every move.
Pete is a banker at a suburban bank. Holly is a homemaker. They have a young son named CONNOR. They’re a boring family with a typical routine.
One of Johnny’s partners, TONY, also eluded the police and is in pursuit. Unbeknownst to Johnny, Tony and Shauna are having an affair. Shauna turns on Johnny, forcing him to kill her in self-defense.
The next day, Miles and Max go to the bank and Johnny goes to the Wilsons’ house. We soon learn that Pete isn’t the family man that Miles believes him to be; he’s having a torrid affair with his secretary, STACEY, who wants him to leave Holly and Connor to start a new life.
As soon as Connor leaves for school, Johnny barges into the Wilson home and holds Holly at gunpoint. Terrified, she obeys his every command. Meanwhile, Miles weasels his way into Pete’s office and tells him Holly will die in five minutes if Pete doesn’t transfer $4 Million into an offshore account. Pete doesn’t believe him, so they call Holly, who confirms that Johnny has a gun to her head.
Pete jumps through bureaucratic hoops to make the transfer while simultaneously trying to delay appeasing Miles, who proves to be a violent man who means business. But something strange happens at his home; Holly discovers his infidelity and starts to bond with Johnny. The tense ordeal climaxes when Pete makes the transfer as Stacey discovers the identity of Miles, leading to a shootout in the bank. At the same time, Connor comes home from school and Miles’ small army of criminals burst into the house – Johnny faces them down, knowing that Miles has double-crossed him. But Connor is caught in the crossfire, leaving Johnny with a decision: does he risk his life for a boy he doesn’t know, or flee the scene and live to see another day.
Five Minutes to Live is an intense, white-knuckle action-thriller in the vein of The Inside Man and The Town, from the director of such international hits as Eraser, The Scorpion King, and The Mask.
