Joyce, a young and aspiring writer, daughter of a mother arrested for kidnapping, retells the story of her mother and two other women involved in crime. A story which parallels the changes in politics, from the return of democracy in Brazil to nowadays.

On the same day in 1984, in separate parts of the country, three teenage girls experience the start of a life of crime. Xaxá, 14, is thrown out of her house by her mother who believes she’s having an affair with her new lover, and ends up at the big gathering for the return of elections in Brazil where she meets a small time crook. Mazé, 16, kills for the first time, and walks back home to her stepfather, who taught her to shoot and ordered the killing. Rita 12, feels the need to give in to her love for muscle cars and meets the man who’ll take her away from home.The story encompasses 25 years in the life of these women, and is retold from the point of view of Joyce, daughter of Xaxa, who has to deal with her own demons as she was witness to the killing of her father and believes she has some guilt in it.
