In a poor, seemingly picturesque neighbourhood of Istanbul, a young homeless girl has been found dead. Brutally murdered and dumped. Except for a few rumours, nobody knows where she’s from. Is she Jewish, a Russian prostitute maybe?Six people from the neighbourhood are being interrogated. While the police camera is recording, these six witnesses find themselves caught in manipulation and abuse, forcing them to give away their innermost secrets…These six ordinary people tell us not only the story of what happened to the young girl, but also share with us their view on the neighbourhood’s history.9 is the story of a vanishing culture, a culture which is based on traditions, fear and guilt. 9 is an attempt to reveal the face of every day fascism.9 is the first Turkish film that has been shot and edited entirely on digital video andtransferred to 35mm format.
