When film director BOY TALMA (53) returns to his home town to shoot his new film - a variation in song and dance on the Sisyphus theme of pointlessness – he learns he has only nine months left to live. He decides to keep his death sentence a secret, while the scenes he invents for his film increasingly coincide with events in his own life. He gives friends, lovers and acquaintances a role in his fantasized film. Time goes by in a rollercoaster of unique encounters with people who, without Boy realizing, accompany him on his journey towards the end. During the creation of his film, he goes on a final, rebellious journey with the lonely daughter of his deceased assistant director, the thirteen-year-old transgender Valentijn – with whom he develops a special friendship. At the wrap party of his film - which he has completed in his imagination - everybody leaves except him.

POOR BOY is a film about the vitality of the imagination.
