Synopsis

DRY is an intimate epic about the love between a Japanese musician, Nico and a Hispanic chef named Tomas that is set in a Los Angeles where the city is crippled by the severity of an oil crisis. It is against this socially prevalent backdrop that we learn about Nico and Tomas… Individually we see their past difficulties in careers and relationships, the previous chapters of their lives before the two of them finally meet and begin anew together. Cultures and backgrounds also come into conflict as both Tomas and Nico come up against certain preconceived notions and norms of their family’s beliefs. In their world, this version of Los Angeles that is created it is infinitely more expensive and difficult to travel around the city, long lines for basic necessities as the economy struggles and vandalism is on the rise due to the desperate need for gasoline. Nico and Tomas fight for their own relationship as the city starts to engulf and enclose around them directly affecting their life and then it not only becomes a struggle to maintain but to live. Ultimately their story taps into the zeitgeist and becomes something that is pertinent, inspirational and hopeful that relates to the angst, disillusionment and isolation of our digitally interconnect world. It shows love and relationships in artful ways and pairings that haven’t been explored often; it’s a fresh take on modern life.
