A cynical film director and his assistant back in Basilicata, their homeland, in search of redemption. When they reach the age of 50 and realize they have failed in their artistic ambitions they decide to ride dissent on oil extraction for putting on a rickety investigative film titled "The Gospel According to Mattei" and that interweave with Pier Paolo Pasolini life, author of the unfinished 'Oil' and the cinematic masterpiece novel 'The Gospel According to Matthew' filmed in Basilicata in 1964. The two, driven by reasons of marketing rather than aesthetic, choosing to cast as lead in their film an old man from Matera, Franco, who is seventy, and as a kid, in fact, took part as an extra in the film by Pasolini. For the elder Franco, who will perform nothing less than in the role of Jesus, this is the long-awaited chance of redemption. But the hot topic treated by their films, which is the oil and relationship with the land, is starting to bother someone.
