Tench tells the story of Jonathan, an introverted and kind-hearted young man. He returns from jail to the coastal village where he lives with his mother. They don’t talk about the cause of his absence. In the house next door, a mother and her 10-year-old daughter have moved in. One day, Jonathan returns from a trip to the dune ponds with a wounded tench, a fish of the cyprinid family. The girl comes over to admire the fish. They start to seek out each other’s company more often and develop a close friendship. But Jonathan is struggling with his own desires.
