Princess Anette doesn’t want to get married – the less so to the inept Prince Jerome from a neighbouring country. Cancellation of the marriage would mean a war with the powerful King Frederick and therefore King Leopold schemes out of a magnificent trick: he sends his neighbour a message that Lucifer himself proposes to the Princess.
