Synopsis
In a working class neighborhood in the outskirts of a small village in the interior of the country, a group of children has to confront the beginning of a strange incident that turned all adults into "sleeping beings".
The children of this town, between confused and determined, are waiting for the moment, where everything "goes back to normal" and their parents awake.
It's the first time that ALMA (7) stays overnight somewhere else than at home; to a certain degree obliged by her parents and her friend EMI (8), in order to participate at a slumber party in the house of her cousins FLOR (9) and MASSIMO (8).
The following morning, they have to make the decision to go and look for ALMA's little brother who is alone in the house of their parents. Therefore, they have to cross the whole town. Not everyone agrees to take on the adventure, and one of the invitees to the party decides to stay.
This is the beginning of days between playing and waiting, full of confusion, not free of some dangers that uncover the strange and fascinating world that they live in.
In the middle of their journey, when some already get discouraged and they children start to feel tired, on their search for a shelter in one of the houses in the center, they encounter SIMONA (11) a girl that has been on her own these days, waiting for her grandmother to wake up.
To the delight of MASSIMO, SIMONA joins the group and together they continue the journey towards ALMA's house. There, finally, they discover that ALMA's little brother is not alone at all.
The stories of these families are getting uncovered under the rests, the traces of these homes, of these people, seen through the eyes of the "survivors".
"There will come soft rains" is a reflection on the awareness (a child looks at the world), the companionship and the uncertainty of these days. The traces, the absences, the rests that define us.
