Synopsis

Peter O’Toole’s stiff upper lipped Edwardian Londoner, Fisk Senior, is a sharp witted and emotionally stifled widower who refuses to mourn the tragic loss of either his younger son or wife, and whose awkward weekly Thursday meetings with his only remaining child, Fisk Junior - a genteel academic played by Jeremy Northam - are dreary, stilted rituals without joy or purpose. It is only through their bizarre encounters with a strange clergyman, Dean Spanley (played by Sam Neill) that Fisk Senior finds his heart, and father and son are reconciled.
